VOV.VN - Hanoi welcomes Guangzhou’ proposals for cooperation, especially in the fields of urban infrastructure development and environmental management.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan was speaking during a reception on September 24 for Vice Mayor Lai Zhihong of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government.

Sharing an overview of Hanoi’s development, Tuan noted that the capital is actively preparing for its 18th Party Congress, which outlines many new strategic development directions, with a particular focus on comprehensive technical infrastructure, especially urban transport. The city aims to build 15 urban railway lines by 2045, with 96.8 kilometres expected to be completed by 2030 and an additional 301 kilometres in the investment preparation stage.

He emphasized that,

To achieve these ambitious goals, he said, Hanoi is seeking strong support from international partners with financial and technical capabilities. In this context, the involvement of Chinese enterprises, particularly from a major economic hub like Guangzhou, is highly valued and expected to accelerate key infrastructure projects in the capital.

Vice Mayor Lai reaffirmed Guangzhou’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Vietnamese localities, especially Hanoi. He shared that Guangzhou’s GDP in 2024 reached over CNY3.1 trillion (approximately US$426.7 billion) and is home to more than 4 million business entities, providing a strong foundation for comprehensive collaboration with Hanoi across various sectors, including transport, environmental solutions, education, and smart urban development.

During the meeting, the two sides engaged in open discussions and agreed to continue promoting bilateral cooperation, prioritising previously signed agreements. Representatives from Guangzhou’s enterprises took the opportunity to present their strengths, technological capabilities, and desire to engage in Hanoi’s transportation and environmental projects.

Vice Chairman Tuan expressed appreciation for Guangzhou's goodwill and expertise. He proposed that the two cities prioritise cooperation in key areas such as education and training, urban infrastructure development, green transport, and tourism.

He also asked relevant departments in Hanoi to coordinate with Guangzhou’s counterparts to study the feasibility of proposed cooperation directions and facilitate their implementation in the near future.
