Hanoi sees rising dengue, HFMD and measles cases
VOV.VN - Hanoi recorded nearly 400 cases of dengue along with hundreds of hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) and measles cases from October 17 to 24, according to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC).
The capital reported 392 dengue cases across 104 wards and communes, up 38 cases from the previous week, with no fatalities. Hotspots included Dan Hoa (18 cases), Thanh Oai (15), Hoa Xa (12), Tay Ho (11), and Hong Son and Tu Liem (10 each).
Since the start of the year, Hanoi has logged 3,808 dengue cases, down 25% from the same period in 2024, but new outbreaks are emerging and cases are trending upward. The week saw 12 new outbreaks, with 27 still active.
HFMD cases increased to 187 in 74 wards and communes, up 56 from the prior week. Total cases this year exceed 5,200, doubling the number in the same period of 2024.
Measles cases reached 17 in 12 wards and communes during the week, bringing the annual total to 4,432, including one death. The city also recorded one pertussis case in Thanh Xuan and one adult tetanus case in Yen Hoa, with no fatalities.
CDC Hanoi has intensified surveillance and outbreak management in high-risk areas such as Hong Son, Tien Thang, Bo De, and Dan Hoa. The agency also coordinated environmental inspections and water sampling at major international event sites, including the National Assembly building, the National Exhibition Center, the National Convention Center, and JW Marriott Hotel.
In the coming week, local health stations will continue monitoring patients and outbreaks, tracking mosquito larvae indices, and carrying out control measures, including larvicide and chemical spraying in high-risk areas.
Health screening at Noi Bai International Airport will also be strengthened to detect suspected cases promptly and ensure timely disease prevention and control.
