Hanoi police arrest, hunt for foreign thieves

Hanoi police have arrested a Colombian national for theft and are hunting for other accomplices in the gang.

Rodricuez Luis Alexander, born in 1977, was arrested by Hanoi police and border guards of the Cau Treo Border Gate at this port of entry in central Ha Tinh province on April 1.

Two other Colombians were reported to be with him at the time of the arrest, namely Zuga Galvez Jaime Alberto (born in 1978) and Nino Fidel (born in 1976).

Preliminary information showed that the gang consisted of nine members. They followed those who came to major banks to withdraw money and then used nails or sharp knives to damage car tyres. They took advantage of the time the victims had their tyres repaired to steal assets.

With the same trick, they stole nearly VND2 billion (US$87,890) from a resident in Hang Tre street of Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi, on February 22.
