Hanoi: people flock to buy VND100 souvenir banknote

VOV.VN - The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) on April 12 sold the VND100 souvenir bill to mark its 65th founding anniversary (May 6, 1951). 

The banknotes are sold at SBV’s headquarters in Ly Thai To St. and its Hanoi branch in Ly Thuong Kiet St.

A customer is allowed to buy five notes only.

Identity Card is required.

Nguyen Thi Mai Suong, Director of the SBV’s Hanoi branch said the commemorative banknotes, which were not used for payment, featured the portrait of the late President Ho Chi Minh as well as a number of the country’s symbolic items such as the image of ancient coins, a depiction of an ancient Ngoc Lu bronze drum and a portrait of Phu Dong Thien Vuong (Saint Giong), a Vietnamese legendary hero.

Nguyen Duy Trung from Hoai Duc District, Hanoi shared, “I will keep the banknote in my wallet for luck.”


The souvenir banknote is sold for VND20,000/single note and VND25,000 per note wrapped in a folder with a bilingual caption.


By 3pm on April 12, the SBV’s branch in Hanoi stopped receiving registration for buying the VND100 banknote. So far, 100 individuals and collectives have registered.
