Society Hanoi lifts restrictions on final COVID-19 hotspot Thursday, 12:56, 14/05/2020 VOV.VN - Residents of Dong Cuu village in Thuong Tin district, a COVID-19 hotspot, enjoyed restrictions finally being lifted on May 14. Kieu Xuan Huy, chairman of Thuong Tin district’s administration, stated that 1,200 samples taken from residents of Dong Cuu village had recently tested negative for the virus. In light of this Huy urged villagers to closely co-operate with local authorities and follow regulations relating to COVID-19 prevention and control. Authorities in Hanoi had first moved to impose a lockdown on Dong Cuu village on April 15 following a COVID-19 case being detected in the locality. The barriers which had been erected as a way of physically enforcing the quarantine on the village are finally removed at 00:00am on May 14 to mark the end of the lockdown. Since the report of COVID-19 cases being discovered in Dong Cuu village on April 15, there have been no fresh cases reported in the capital for 28 days. The removal of barriers by police mean that Dong Cuu village is officially able to move past its lockdown period. The lockdown on the village had been imposed due to the country’s 266th patient, a resident of Dong Cuu village, testing positive for the virus on April 15 after contracting COVID-19 whilst taking care of her mother at Bach Mai hospital. The special moment is applauded by local people in the village with the national flag being raised to commemorate the momentous occasion. Medical workers and volunteers have worked tirelessly throughout the 28-day isolation period in Dong Cuu village.
