Hanoi bar fire injures 13
Flames engulfed a packed bar in Hanoi on September 23 night, leaving 13 with burns, according to a doctor from Saint Paul Hospital.
Dr. Nguyen Thong, head of the Burns Faculty of Saint Paul Hospital, said that the victims were brought to the hospital around midnight, causing them to call in all emergency staff members.
Among the patients, two had light burns, while the rest were in need of more extensive medical treatment. Dr. Thong said that many suffered from respiratory burns and inhalation of toxic fumes.
The fire started at 11:50pm on September 23, in the back of Bar Luxury, at No. 153, Yen Phu Street, Tay Ho District Hanoi. The flames quickly spread, enveloping the entire bar.
Despite the several fire trucks on site, the fire continued to burn out of control. Witnesses said it took only about 15 minutes for the fire to spread into the whole building.
Firefighters got the blaze under control within an hour, before it could do damage to an adjacent taxi garage and parking lot.
According to eyewitnesses, the flames broke out in a corner of the bar’s roof and quickly engulfed the two-story building. Investigators believe the cause was faulty electrical wiring.
