Gray whale found dead in central Vietnam

(VOV) -A nearly one tonne gray whale has been found dead by Vietnamese fishermen in an offshore catch.

Vu Ngoc Dien and other fishermen from Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district, central Nghe An province, caught the dead whale on August 13 while they were fishing in the Tonkin Gulf, about 145 nautical miles offshore.

Dien’s fishing vessel, coded NA 93197TS, then brought the frozen whale ashore and handed it over to local agencies.

The whale, 780kg in weight and 4.2m in length has been sent to the Nature Museum of Vietnam in Hanoi.

A museum curator said on August 15 that the whale will be put on display for public view soon.
