Govt improves Bangkok community with housing project

The government's housing program for canalside residents has reportedly improved the quality of life at the Bang Bua Ruam Jai Pattana community.

The program is aimed at enhancing the quality of life of those living in overcrowded residential areas. Some members of the Bangkok community were relocated to other parts of the city. Homes that encroached on public property were removed, and new housing was built for those in need.

Bang Bua Ruam Jai Pattana has downsized from 206 households to 181, all of which have proper access to public utilities. Construction on new housing has reached the final phase and is expected to be finished soon.

A member of the community, who reportedly lived in the area for over four decades, revealed that she voluntarily joined the program due to factors of legality, financial limitations, and the poor existing environment.

She said she was able to secure a long-term, low-interest loan for housing development from the Community Organizations Development Institute. Monthly payments for the loan fall within the range of 1,390 - 2,219 baht.
