Government inspectors set new task

The Government Inspection service will focus on settling the 63 acute and outstanding problems detected by the inspectors during their missions from 2008 to 2012.

At a press conference in Hanoi on July 19, government deputy chief inspector Ngo Van Khanh said in the second quarter of this year his agency concluded seven inspections on capital management and spending at the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation (VNPT); the execution of civil judgments at the Ministry of Justice; tax refund related to the temporary imports and exports of diesel and petrol at the General Department of Customs, and others.

Khanh said that following their mission to VNPT, the government inspectors petitioned the corporation to return to the State coffers VND105.8 billion (US$5 million) from the non-compliance of the tax law by the corporation and its affiliates and asked authorities to deal with a sum of VND4.9 trillion (US$233 million) which was wrongly spent.

He said in the second quarter, the agency also conducted 2,270 administrative inspections in various ministries, sectors and localities.

The inspectors discovered that a total sum of VND984 billion (US$46.2 million) was wrongly spent and almost 449ha of land were misused. Based on the results of their inspections, the inspectors petitioned for the return of VND143 billion (US$6.8 million) and 397ha of land.

Regarding the handling of the people's petitions and denunciations, by May 30, some 456 out of 528 outstanding cases were successfully settled.

Regarding the work in the third quarter of 2013, Khanh promised that his agency would do their best to solve the remaining 63 most outstanding problems while continuing to conduct emergency inspection visits if they deemed it necessary.

At the press conference, the government deputy chief inspector also answered questions raised by reporters on the issue of the tax refunds on diesel and petrol, the gold market and the stock exchange.
