On March 18, Da Nang Hospital inaugurated a state-of-the-art biplane digital subtraction angiography (DSA) system, honored the "Heart for Heart" organization, and presented the first-ever “Dedication to Da Nang” award.

At the event, the Da Nang municipal People's Committee recognized Prof. Dr. Erich Johann Lejeune (a German national) for his remarkable contributions to the development of the hospital’s Cardiovascular Center. Secretary of the Da Nang municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang and city leaders attended the ceremony and presented the award.

For nearly two decades, Prof. Lejeune and his wife, through the "Heart for Heart" organization, have donated advanced medical equipment to improve cardiac diagnostics and treatment at Da Nang Hospital. In 2006, they funded the hospital’s first DSA system.

By 2013, they contributed a second system worth nearly VND27 billion and supported the establishment of the Congenital & Structural Heart Disease Department. In 2023, they further provided high-value equipment to enhance the screening and early diagnosis of congenital heart diseases. Recognizing the increasing demand for cardiac care, the organization continued its support in 2024 by donating over EUR 1 million (more than VND 27 billion) for a third DSA system.

Thanks to these contributions, the Congenital & Structural Heart Disease Department has performed over 3,500 cardiac interventions for both children and adults, maintaining a low complication rate. The hospital also runs a free congenital heart disease screening program, having examined more than 350,000 children and identified nearly 3,000 cases.

Prof. Lejeune affirmed that by 2026, marking 20 years of "Heart for Heart" in Da Nang, the organization will provide another advanced DSA system along with additional medical equipment. He also pledged to continue connecting world-leading medical experts with Da Nang to further enhance the city’s cardiology services.

In recognition of his relentless dedication over the past two decades, the Da Nang municipal People's Committee awarded Prof. Lejeune the “Dedication to Da Nang” honor, the first-ever recipient of this prestigious award.
