VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health granted an extra batch of 600,000 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Ho Chi Minh City on August 9 following the southern city announcing it is running low on doses as it presses ahead with its extensive inoculation drive.
According to Nguyen Hoai Nam, deputy director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Health, the vaccines are set to be distributed throughout 21 districts and Thu Duc city.
August 8 saw the department report that the city now has approximately 500,000 doses ready for August 8 and August 9, meaning that it will no longer have any vaccine doses after August 9.
Data compiled by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health shows the Ministry of Health has allocated 2,595,490 doses to the southern city, 2,295,773 of which were administered between July 22 and August 8.
With 300,000 doses administered daily, the southern city is aiming to inject 70% of people aged 18 and above against COVID-19 by the end of August.
Ho Chi Minh City recorded a total of 124,153 COVID-19 positive cases between April 27 and the morning of August 9, becoming the nation’s largest hotspot during the current wave.
