French news chiefs meet in Hanoi

Leaders of French newspapers are gathering in Hanoi to discuss the spread of French journalism in foreign countries.

The July 24-26 meeting, the second of its kind, brings together French media representatives from more than seven countries around Asia and Eastern Europe, including Cambodia, Thailand and Romania.

Participants will examine current challenges facing publications in countries where French is not an official language and promote new developments in French language journalism.

The event is a joint effort between the Asia-Pacific Office of the International French Organization (IFO), the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Le Courrier du Vietnam newspaper.

The first meeting was held in Bucharest, Romania, in December 2011.
