Free breeding cattle given to victims of mines in Ha Giang
The Vietnam Association for Supporting Unexploded Ordnance/Mine Action (VNASMA) presented breeding cattle to poor households that were affected by mines in northern Ha Giang province on October 24-25.
Lieutenant General Pham Van Khoa, VNASMA Permanent Vice Chairman, handed over the breeding cows, worth VND440 million in total, to 33 families of landmine victims in mountainous communes of Vi Xuyen, Dong Van and Meo Vac districts who have been struggling to make ends meet.
The action aimed to create livelihood for the victims, lift them out of poverty and have a better life.
The association also provided the victims and local ethnic people here with free health check-ups and spread awareness of the dangers posed by mines alongside prevention of risks.
According to the People’s Committee of Ha Giang, unexploded ordnance and mines were left across more than 85,000 hectares of land in the province. By October 2017, over 300 local residents, mostly from ethnic minority groups and difficult backgrounds, had been suffered from mines.
