France helps Vietnam train human resources for high-speed railway development

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Construction, the Vietnam Railway Authority (VNRA), the French Development Agency (AFD), and SNCF International have reviewed a technical assistance and capacity-building program in high-speed railways funded by an 850,000 EUR grant from AFD’s Fund for Technical Expertise and Experience Exchange (FEXTE).

The program helped 110 officials from the Ministry of Construction and its affiliated units gain international experience in planning, constructing, managing, and operating modern railways.

Featuring six modules in Hanoi, practical training courses in Rabat (Morocco), and a study tour in Paris, the program equipped participants with practical knowledge and experience in building, managing, operating, and maintaining high-speed railways. Evaluation results showed that over 90% of participants were satisfied with the modules in Hanoi, while the satisfaction rate for the study tour in France reached 98%.

French Ambassador to Vietnam Didier Le Bret emphasized that railway cooperation between the two countries goes beyond human resource training to include technology transfer and manufacturing licensing in Vietnam. The goal is to build a "Made in Vietnam" railway system that meets domestic development needs based on advanced European technical and safety standards.

Appreciating the program's efficiency, Deputy Minister of Construction Bui Xuan Dung said the training provided valuable experience, helping enhance the knowledge and professional capability of Vietnamese officials as the country prepares to carry out large-scale transport infrastructure projects. Through this, railway cooperation continues to be consolidated as a key pillar in Vietnam-France relations.

According to the Deputy Minister, in the long term, Vietnam is set to build new lines and upgrade existing ones to form a network of 25 lines totaling over 6,700 km.

To realize this plan, the country focuses on developing the railway industry alongside research, technology transfer, high-quality human resource training, and improved capacity in management, construction, and operation. In this process, Vietnam hopes the French Government, AFD, and French railway enterprises will continue to partner with, support, and strengthen cooperation with the country.
