RoK pushes urban rail cooperation with Vietnam
VOV.VN - The Metropolitan Transport Commission under the Republic of Korea’s (RoK) Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on November 26 reported that the RoK Urban Railway Project Support delegation is on a working visit to Vietnam from November 25-28.
Led by Kim Yong Seok, Chairman of the RoK Urban Railway Promotion Committee, the delegation will hold bilateral meetings with Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction and the Hanoi People’s Committee. They will also organize the “RoK–Vietnam Urban Railway Cooperation Forum” to assist RoK firms in accessing the Vietnamese market.
During the visit, the delegation plans to meet key Vietnamese officials, including the Deputy Minister of Construction, to present the RoK’s self-reliant technological expertise and urban railway business cooperation models. Based on 51 years of accumulated experience in urban railway operation and development, both sides aim to explore cooperation in establishing national standards and strategies for Vietnam’s urban railway system.
At bilateral meetings with the Hanoi People’s Committee, specific project information will be shared, including master planning and official bidding schedules for Lines 2, 3, and 5.
The RoK-Vietnam Urban Railway Cooperation Forum is expected to gather over 100 officials from major cities, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, to discuss cooperation across policy, technical co-operation, project bidding, and operational workforce training.
Key RoK organizations, such as the Korea Railroad Research Institute, Seoul/Busan Metro Corporations, the National Railroad Corporation, and KORAIL, will propose technological systems, operational expertise, and customized partnership models suited to local conditions.
Additionally, the delegation will visit the Line 3 construction site in Hanoi, managed by Hyundai Engineering & Construction, to gather on-site feedback and explore opportunities for RoK businesses to expand operations.
Kim Yong Seok stated that the RoK Urban Railway Promotion Committee is working to create momentum for RoK companies to enter Southeast Asia through comprehensive partnerships, linking standards, operations, technology, and urban railway workforce training.
