Four to six tropical storms to hit Vietnam this year

VOV.VN - Between 10 and 12 storms and tropical depressions are anticipated to hit the East Sea between now and the end of this year, with roughly half expected to directly impact the Vietnamese mainland, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The central and south-central regions are the two areas that would be hardest hit by the upcoming rainy and stormy season ahead in October and November, said the centre.

Like previous years, the 2021 rainy and stormy season would see storms and tropical depressions form and batter Vietnam in the second half of the year, especially in October and November.

The weather forecast authority has also warned of dangerous weather phenomena, including thunderstorms, lightning, whirlwinds, and hailstones.

Furthermore, flash floods and landslides could strike northern mountainous areas sooner than in previous years. Indeed, flood peaks may occur at an alarming rate in August and September.

Floods will also hit rivers in the central region and in the Central Highlands region between September and December.
