Four individuals prosecuted for organising illegal entry

VOV.VN - Police operating in Dien Bien province announced on April 6 that they have detained and prosecuted four people for attempting to assist groups of Chinese citizens to enter the country before continuing their illegal entry into Laos.

The four arrestees include 35-year-old Nguyen Van Nhat and 22-year-old Nguyen Van Sinh, both of whom reside in Pom Lot commune of Dien Bien district. This is in addition to 35-year-old Nguyen Van Thinh of Noong Bua ward in Dien Bien Phu city and 21 year-old Va A Phong of Con Cang village in Na U commune of Dien Bien district.

Officers of Tay Trang International Border Gate noticed Sinh as he was riding a motorbike and directing a suspicious looking taxi which was traveling just behind. Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, the police discovered a group of hidden Chinese nationals, including four men and one woman.

Once questioned, Sinh confessed to hiring two taxis to transport nine Chinese citizens from Dien Bien Phu city to meet Phong so they could attempt to help the Chinese group illegally exit the country and enter neighbouring Laos. According to their agreement, Sinh would be paid VND8 million per person and would gave a bonus of VND3 million per person to Phong.

When police forces moved to expand the case they were able to catch Va A Phong as he helped five Chinese nationals hide in an area close to the border.

Nguyen Van Thinh and Nguyen Van Nhat were also arrested for assisting Chinese people to illegally cross the border and enter Laos.

Nine Chinese nationals said they contacted a Vietnamese person through social media, with the Vietnamese suspect agreeing to help them illegally enter Vietnam and then Laos for a fee of VND250 million per person.

A further investigation is now underway.
