Foreigners arrested for in-flight thefts
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security announced on January 8 that it had arrested several foreigners who had attempted to steal property from passengers on flights by Vietnamese airlines.
From December 23 to December 27, the department, in cooperation with relevant agencies, deported one foreign suspect and arrested three others for stealing a total of VND113 million from passengers.
The Ministry of Public Security has initiated two cases and transferred them to the Ho Chi Minh City Police for further investigation.
The first case occurred on December 23, when a Chinese national, Han Qiang, was caught red-handed rummaging through a Vietnamese man’s bag in the luggage rack on flight VJ1633 from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City. The stolen property was worth VND60 million.
On the same flight, another Chinese man, Chen Heping, was arrested for stealing VND10 million from a Romanian passenger.
Another incident took place on December 24 on flight VJ1630 from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, where Chen Guang Dong, also from China, was caught stealing US$1,500 and VND5 million from the bag of a Vietnamese passenger.
