Foreign correspondents observe administration of migrant workers

The Foreign Office, Government Public Relations Department (PRD), organized a two-day study trip for foreign correspondents to observe migrant worker administration, under the topic of "The Situation of Migrant Workers in Thailand.”
This study trip took place from March 19 to 20, 2018, in Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom provinces, and provided foreign correspondents a good opportunity to observe and better comprehend the present operations, including migrant worker registration, nationality verification, minimum wages, welfare, and rights and benefits provision, as well as other security and safety procedures of the Thai government toward migrant workers in Thailand.
On the first day, the 42 foreign correspondents and staff members arrived at Samut Sakhon Hospital, Samut Sakhon province, in order to participate in the session "Migrant Workers Administration,” delivered by Mr. Sombat Nivesrat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Employment.
After the session, the foreign correspondents and staff visited the One-Stop Service Center (OSS), in order to observe the services offered by the center for migrant workers administration, such as (1) migrant worker registration, (2) visa services, and (3) iris scan services.
The party then proceeded to Anuson Mahachai Co., Ltd, a factory that produces frozen seafood, canned and ready-to-cook products, and ground fish for animal feed, in order to observe its production process and overall migrant workers administration within the factory.
After that, they proceeded to the Samut Sakhon Fish Market, observing working conditions of migrant workers, the processes of migrant worker verification, and the operations of Port-In-Port-Out Instruction for Fishing Boat Center (PIPO).
On the second day, the itinerary included visiting two factories: (1) Kasemchai Farm Group Co., Ltd., a factory that produces various products from chicken and duck eggs, and (2) K P Foods Co., Ltd., whose major products are snacks and crackers, in order to observe the migrant workers administration and management of the working environment for the migrant workers within the two factories.
