Floods in central Vietnam and Central Highlands kill and leave 46 missing
VOV.VN - The early November floods have caused serious human and material losses, severely affecting local residents’ lives, according to rapid reports from provinces and cities from Ha Tinh to Lam Dong.
As of the morning of November 4, floods from Ha Tinh to Lam Dong have killed or left 46 people missing, including 40 confirmed dead.
Across the affected area, 104 houses have collapsed or been washed away, and 453 houses were damaged. Currently, 79,854 homes remain flooded, mainly in Thua Thien-Hue (54,602 houses), Da Nang (16,038 houses), Quang Tri (5,167 houses), and Ha Tinh (4,047 houses).
Flooding has damaged or submerged 10,816 hectares of rice fields and crops, with Lam Dong suffering the heaviest losses at 8,304 hectares. In addition, 68,513 livestock and poultry have died or been swept away, primarily in Da Nang (47,614) and Thua Thien-Hue (8,763).
Road transport infrastructure is still disrupted at 46 locations, including 38 points on national highways managed by the Ministry of Transport, notably on the Ho Chi Minh Trail (western branch) and Truong Son East routes.
On November 3, the railway sector temporarily closed the Hue-Van Xa section of the North-South line due to rising floodwaters. Regarding irrigation works, over 58 km of canals were eroded or damaged, and 37 km of riverbanks and coastlines were washed away.
As of now, the electricity sector has restored power for 403,521 customers, while 163,269 remain without electricity, concentrated in Thua Thien-Hue (84,963) and Da Nang (78,306).
In telecommunications, nine communes and wards in Quang Ngai still lack access to dedicated data networks due to power outages; however, public communication services from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai have been restored.
Local authorities are urgently searching for missing people, mitigating consequences, restoring electricity and transport, and evacuating residents from high-risk areas to minimize further losses.
