Five persons nabbed for online fraud
The police arrested five persons for being involved in an online fraud operation on May 16.
Nguyen Van Do, Nguyen Ngoc Tay, Nguyen Thanh Nhon, and Dinh Phong Phu, as well as Truong Ngoc Duan, aged between 21 and 37, allegedly created a website to sell high-end electronic devices at prices much lower than the market rates.
They asked the customers to pay 50% of the cost of the products with their ATM cards. The rest of the money had to be transferred to their bank accounts, when the customers received a printed receipt from their website.
The fraudsters never delivered the products, but instead emptied their bank accounts and disappeared.
The police discovered the bank accounts under the fraudsters' names to be holding hundreds of thousands of dollars. The case is under further investigation.
