Five earthquakes hit Da Nang, Quang Ngai early on April 22
VOV.VN - Five earthquakes were recorded in Tra Linh commune in Da Nang city and Mang But commune in Quang Ngai province between around 5 a.m. and after 8 a.m. on April 22.
According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences, four quakes measuring between magnitude 2.6 and 3.1 struck Tra Linh at a depth of about 8.1 km, while one magnitude 2.8 quake occurred in Mang But at a similar depth.
All tremors were classified as level 0, posing no natural disaster risk. The centre said it is continuing to monitor the situation.
The previous evening, three more quakes ranging from magnitude 2.8 to 3.4 were also recorded in Mang But at a depth of around 8.1 km.
Quang Ngai has experienced frequent seismic activity in recent years, particularly in areas previously part of Kon Tum province, with tremors concentrated around the former Kon Plong district.
Since 2021, hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in the region, including several that caused noticeable ground shaking. The strongest recent event was a 5.0 magnitude quake recorded on July 28, 2024, while another 4.7-magnitude earthquake occurred on August 23, 2022.
