Addressing the opening ceremony, Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, vice chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City municipal People’s Committee, highlighted the pioneering role that the youth play in contributing to the implementation of sustainable development goals, saying they are having their voice and taking actions to address global issues.
She cited recent data unveiling that the global youth population stands at about 1.8 billion, and in the ASEAN region in general and in Vietnam in particular, more than 30% of the population are young people of working age.
They play an important part to maintain international peace and security among countries and territories worldwide, Thuy noted.
The festival, the first of its kind in Vietnam, selected hot topics such as health care, climate change and the environment for discussions, as most of the delegates are passionate about scientific research, trying to find the best solutions to tackle daily issues and bring good value to the community, she added.
After the opening ceremony, delegates attended two forums on specific topics and visited several sightseeing spots across the southern city.
