First repatriation flight for VN citizens in Ukraine due on Mar. 6

VOV.VN - Vietnam Airlines will conduct the first flight bringing home Vietnamese citizens stranded in Ukraine on March 6, said a representative of the national flag carrier.

The flight is scheduled to depart from Hanoi to Bucharest (Romania) to get the citizens on March 6 morning and to land in Hanoi the following day, said Trinh Hong Quang, deputy general director of Vietnam Airlines.

All necessary preparations and procedures for the flight have been completed, said Quang.

Besides Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways has also developed plans to repatriate Vietnamese citizens in Ukraine. Bamboo Airways announced on March 4 it will launch the first repatriation flight on March 9 and the citizens will board the plane from Warsaw (Poland).

The citizens are getting help to leave Ukraine’s war zones for neighbouring countries such as the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia and Belarus to board repatriation flights.

Currently, approximately 430 people have desired to return to Vietnam from Romania.

“There are 750 citizens from Ukraine entering Poland. However, the number of people wishing to return home is only about 100, the rest want to go to a third country or return to Ukraine when the situation stabilizes,” said a representative from the Vietnam Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

The Government on March 4 approved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ proposal to arrange flights to bring home Vietnamese people from Ukraine.
