Fireworks dazzle Ho Chi Minh City residents on Reunification Day

A pyrotechnic show glittered at 10:00 pm on April 30 over the Bitexco Financial Tower- the city’s tallest which stands aloft in the downtown area.

The spectacles drew influxes of locals and tourists to the venue, as well as countless others who enjoyed the show from afar.

Traffic was banned from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm that night on streets located within the firework venue’s belt, including Vo Van Kiet, Ton Duc Thang, Dong Khoi, Le Loi, and Pho Duc Chinh. 

The fireworks displays were another draw apart from the Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in the proximity, which has been open to the public starting Wednesday.

The pedestrian street, the city’s first of its kind, will be a venue for parades, meetings, street festivals, and the city’s hallmark Nguyen Hue Flower Street, which is held annually during Tet (Lunar New Year.)

The walking street will also boast art, exhibition and sports activities, and will be lined with mobile stands that offer for sale a wide array of mementoes and food specialties.

High-range fireworks displays lasting about 15 minutes each also took place at seven other locations from 10:00 pm to 10:15 pm last night.

The venues were Ben Duoc and Nga Ba Giong War Martyr Monuments in Cu Chi and Hoc Mon Districts respectively; Lang Le-Bau Co Relic in Binh Chanh District; Can Gio District’s Football Pitch; Historical, Cultural Park in District 9; Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11; and Go Vap District Flower Village.

The firework shows were part of the activities in commemoration of the Reunification Day, April 30 and Labor Day, May 1.

The country was reunified on April 30, 1975.
