Fashion designer Nguyen Cong Tri arrested for drug use involvement

VOV.VN - Nguyen Cong Tri, one of Vietnam’s top fashion designers known internationally for dressing global celebrities, has been arrested in connection with illegal drug use, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Police.

Authorities recently dismantled a drug trafficking and usage ring operating in Ho Chi Minh City. On June 12, police conducted a raid on a residence on Lac Long Quan Street and caught red handed Nguyen Quoc Trung, 34 in possession of marijuana and cocaine.

Trung admitted to trading drugs via encrypted social media platforms such as Telegram and Signal, using multiple intermediary bank accounts for transactions.

Further investigation led police to uncover drug use by Nguyen Cong Tri, 47, and another man, Tran Phu Long, 46, on the night of June 23 at a private residence in Tan Hung ward. During a search of their premises, the police seized suspected drug paraphernalia, including porcelain dishes, rolled banknotes, and plastic cards. Both men admitted these were tools used for drug consumption.

Tri currently serves as a member of the Asian Couture Federation and is widely celebrated both in Vietnam and abroad. His designs have been worn by global icons such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Adele, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Selena Gomez, Rosé and Lisa (BLACKPINK), as well as former US First Lady Michelle Obama.

His career took a major international leap in 2017, when Rihanna and Katy Perry began wearing his creations, leading to wider recognition among Hollywood stars. His collections have been showcased at prestigious events like Tokyo Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. In 2014, he was named among the 100 most influential contemporary fashion figures globally.

The case is currently under further investigation by authorities.
