Facebook to delete livestream videos in Vietnam after 30 days

VOV.VN - Facebook will delete all livestream videos uploaded in Vietnam after 30 days starting from July 3.

In an announcement dated March 7, Facebook said, all livestream videos on the platform will only be stored for 30 days, and after this period, the videos will be permanently deleted from the platform.

This change comes after Meta analyzed user data and found that almost no one watches livestreams older than a month. As a result, limiting storage time will help reduce server and storage costs.

To prevent loss of important content, Facebook recommended that account users retain their livestream videos by either downloading or transferring these video clips to other platforms.

The service provider will provide a tool that allows users to download old livestream videos easily. Besides downloading, users can also transfer their videos to cloud storage services such as Google Drive or Dropbox using the "Transfer Live Video" option.

Meanwhile, Mai Thanh Phu, an expert in providing services on social networks, revealed that deleting videos will directly affect sellers or personal branding.

Accounts that have had many live sessions and interactions usually have prestige among customers. In addition, famous people may lose interesting videos or waste time and effort storing them, Phu added.

Amid Facebook's changes, some users have begun to convert livestream videos to the Reels format which only allows posting videos of up to 90 seconds long.

Facebook has been deleting livestream videos after 30 days since mid-February in international markets. According to experts, deleting livestream videos could cause Facebook to lose its competitive advantage over its rivals.

At present, Twitch, one of Facebook Live's biggest rivals, allows 60-day storage for Twitch Partners, Affiliates, and Prime streamers.
