Explosions at military warehouse send people fleeing in Vietnam

Many people in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak ran away from their homes in the middle of the night on January 10 following loud explosions from a military’s bullet warehouse.

The bangs were heard at around 10 p.m. from the warehouse of a tank brigade in Dak Doa District of the province. People said they could still hear the noise after running several kilometers away.

“After terrible explosions, fire and smoke shot up. At some point, they looked like fireworks,” a woman said, her voice shaking. She lives around three kilometers or nearly two miles away.

Soldiers in nearby camps were also evacuated.

Small explosions were still heard at 1:30 a.m. on January 11.

An official said later in the morning that the incident has been dealt with and there were no casualties.

People have returned to their homes and the cause of the explosions is being investigated.
