Erosion threatens beach in Lang Co Bay
Erosion is eating into the beach in Lang Co Bay, one of the world’s most beautiful bays, in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
According to Duong Dang Trung, Chairman of Lang Co Town People’s Committee said this is the first time erosion has happened in the Lang Co Estuary. Heavy rains and floods at the end of October and early November make the problem more serious, with the sea already moving more than 200m deep into land.
From November 7-9, the town’s administration is building a dyke to stop the erosion, with the assistance from the border guard force stationed in the locality.
Office Chief of the provincial Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control-Search and Rescue Phan Thanh Hung said the province needs help from scientists to address the erosion while maintaining the landscape of the bay.
Lang Co Bay, with a 13km long beach and white sand and blue water, was selected by Worldbays’ Club as one of the world’s most beautiful bays in 2009. It is now one of the most popular destinations on the Central Vietnam Heritage Road and the East-West Economic Corridor.
