Embassy works to protect rights of Vietnamese fishermen in RoK

The Embassy of Vietnam in the Republic of Korea is working with local authorities to protect the legitimate rights and interest of two Vietnamese allegedly abused when working on a fishing vessel in Seogwipo City, Jeju Island, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

At the ministry’s regular press conference on June 14, Hang confirmed that police of Seogwipo City reported that they are investigating the abuse case pertaining to two Vietnamese men, Le Hong Son and Nguyen Chi Thang working on the fishing ship 2010 Naekho that operated near Seogwipo City on Jeju Island.

She added that the two men are staying at the support centre for foreign workers in Jeju.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested the Embassy of Vietnam in the RoK to keep a close watch on the case.

On June 8, representatives from the embassy paid a visit to the two workers in Jeju and they were in stable condition.
