Education Ministry works out school closure plan ahead of Ragasa landfall
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has requested that the Departments of Education and Training of a certain number of provinces and cities develop a scenario for temporary school closures before super typhoon Ragasa makes landfall.

Temporary school closures are part of measures the education sector is hammering out to deal with super typhoon Ragasa which is intensifying and heading towards Vietnam.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Ragasa is currently swirling across the eastern part of the Philippines’ Luzon Island, with winds gusting more than 200kph. The super typhoon is forecast to enter the East Sea on the evening of September 22 and threaten the northern and north-central coasts of Vietnam in the following days.
Given Ragasa’s complex developments and the risks of heavy rain, flashfloods, landslides, and widespread flooding, the MoET has instructed provincial Departments of Education and Training of provinces from Lam Dong to the north to develop and implement a scenario for temporarily suspending in-person classes and closing schools during the typhoon’s landfall to ensure the utmost safety of students, teachers, and educational staff.
In its telegram issued recently, the MoET also directed schools to prepare online learning alternatives, while reviewing and reinforcing facilities, especially in remote and mountainous areas prone to landslides and flooding. Assets, equipment, furniture, and documents must be relocated to safe areas to minimise damage.
In addition, schools in safe locations may be mobilised as shelters for residents during the storm. Once Ragasa dissipates, education facilities are required to promptly address any damage, clean and disinfect classrooms, and ensure safety and hygiene to prevent disease outbreaks, so that teaching and learning can quickly resume.
