Dutch-funded wastewater treatment plant inaugurated in Ba Ria – Vung Tau

A wastewater collection, treatment, and drainage plant funded by the Dutch government was inaugurated at the Phu My New Urban Area in Phu My town, the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau, on October 23.

The governments of Vietnam and the Netherlands signed an agreement to fund the project on March 30, 2016 as part of activities to enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two sides.

Construction of the project, whose capacity amounts to nearly 30,000 cubic metres per day and night, began in August 2019 with a total investment of over VND818 billion (nearly US$32.2 million), including EUR9.98 million (over US$10.7 million) in non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) by the Dutch government.

Dutch Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Daniel Coenraad Stork said his country has long been a world leader in water management and it is proud to share its expertise with Vietnam through this project.

The project demonstrates the long-term commitment of the Dutch government to foster trade, investment, and sustainable solutions in the region, he added.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Cong Vinh highlighted the significance of the project for local socio-economic development, saying it contributes to improving infrastructure, addressing environmental pollution in canals, and giving a facelift to Phu My township.
