The suspects, made up 22 women and seven men, admitted to originally illegally entering Guangxi in China for the purpose of work through the border trails of Ha Giang, Lang Son, and Quang Ninh provinces since February.

However, after being pursued by Chinese authorities, the group decided to attempt to re-enter the nation by crossing the border via a river.

Upon the discovery of the group each individual underwent a medical check-up before being immediately placed into quarantine as a way of preventing the potential spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
