The 19th Francophone Festival in the Mekong Delta region took place in Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province on March 12-13, as part of activities to celebrate the 46th International Francophone Day (March 20).
The event saw the participation of French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Poirier and over 300 representatives from departments and sectors, Francophone partners, French lecturers and students in the region.
It offered a chance for French speakers to take part in exchange activities, thus promoting French teaching and study in regional localities.
Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duong said Dong Thap wants to boost cultural exchange, and trade and investment cooperation with French localities.
The festival helped enhance mutual understanding among French-speaking people and is a way for people to tighten their solidarity and friendship, he added.
The two-day festival featured a wide range of activities such as a seminar on Francophone cooperation and the role of the French language in the region, an exhibition on the Francophone community’s activities and a cooking contest themed 'Francophone colours'.
