Dong Nai reports first death of dengue fever

The victim was named as Vu Thi Thu Huyen, born in 1983 and a resident of Trang Bom district in Dong Nai province. She had been admitted to Thong Nhat General Hospital on August 10 after displaying the severe symptoms of dengue fever. She passed away after two days of treatment at the hospital.

According to the Dong Nai Centre for Disease Control, after the first death of dengue fever was reported, the local medical sector has mobilised its forces to combat mosquito larva and to spray chemicals to prevent the further spread of the disease.

In addition, the sector has increasingly attempted to raise public awareness about the disease by limiting travel in high risk areas, and taking preventive measures against the disease.

Health officials have warned that in order to cope with the complicated developments of dengue fever, local residents must increase their vigilance of the symptoms of the disease, especially among children.

According to statistics from the Dong Nai Centre for Disease Control, from the start of the year until August 12, the province has recorded more than 9,200 cases of dengue fever, tripling the figure in comparison to the same period last year.
