Dong Nai records first measles death in 2025
VOV.VN - The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of southern Dong Nai province has recently reported another measles death, the first in the province in 2025.
The victim was a 19-month-old child from Bien Hoa city, and this is the fourth death in Dong Nai since the measles outbreak began in 2024.
The patient had received basic vaccinations against hepatitis B, DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis), polio, tuberculosis, and flu, but had not yet received the measles shot.
The child had fever, cough, and mild nosebleeds, accompanied by white spots inside the mouth. She was admitted to Children’s Hospital 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, where she was diagnosed with measles/bronchitis. Her samples were collected for testing, which later confirmed a positive result for measles.
Despite doctors’ efforts, the child’s conditions worsened, and the family opted to take her home.
Upon discharge, the child was diagnosed with septic shock, sepsis, fungal lung infection, severe pneumonia, and post-measles complications. She passed away at home on January 6.
Health professionals strongly advise parents to take proactive steps by visiting local health centers or vaccination clinics to ensure their children receive the measles-containing vaccine on schedule and in the proper doses. This is essential to prevent unfortunate cases caused by the lack of measles immunization.
