Denmark and Vietnam promote P4G role for global climate action

VOV.VN - Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang recently held separate meetings with Danish Permanent Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Ole Thonke who is in charge of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit, and the organising board of the first edition of the summit in 2018.

During the course of the meetings both sides showed their elation at the flourishing ties recorded over the past 50 years with important strategic partnership frameworks, including the strategic partnership in the field of climate change, energy, environment, and green growth since 2011; the comprehensive partnership in 2013; and green strategic partnership in 2023.

The Danish side expressed their positive impression of the Vietnamese side’s tremendous development, which has transformed a country receiving official development assistance (ODA) into both an important partner of Denmark and a top market for Danish businesses in the region in just 15 to 20 years.

Deputy FM Hang thanked Denmark for the country’s support over the years, affirming that Danish ODA made important contributions to Vietnamese socio-economic development.

Appreciative of Denmark’s condolences to the nation over the consequences of typhoon Yagi, Deputy FM Hang underlined that green transition and environmental protection co-operation with Denmark is more important and urgent than ever. She went on to voice her hope that the Danish side will continue to share experience and support with Vietnam in improving its capacity to cope with natural disasters and adapt to climate change in the time ahead.

The official applauded the green and low-emission investment project implemented by the Lego Group, suggesting that Denmark continue to offer optimal conditions for Danish enterprises to expand their investment in the Vietnamese market in Denmark's fields of strength, such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, green transformation, and sustainable development.

The two sides rejoiced over the development and strategic contributions recorded in the P4G in promoting public-private partnership, along with supporting member countries in accelerating green transition as a contribution to building an ecosystem for the global green growth.

The Danish officials emphasized that P4G members’ trust in assigning Vietnam to host the fourth P4G Summit demonstrates their recognition and appreciation of the country’s determination to transform. They said they believe that the summit’s edition in the nation will help to create a typical model of co-operation on a global scale, thereby creating motivation for states to act together for the common goal of greening and reducing emissions.

They therefore thanked the Vietnamese side for its active and responsible contribution, stating that Denmark aspires to continue working with the nation to promote and maintain the momentum of co-operation and enhance the role of P4G, as well as working alongside other multilateral mechanisms to carry out global climate goals.

At the meeting, the Danish side shared their experience in hosting the P4G Summit, expressing confidence that Vietnam will show a strong performance in this regard and pledging to support and co-ordinate efforts with Vietnam in hosting the summit.

Moving forward, the nation has received the right to host the fourth summit ahead in 2025. It is one of the seven founding members and an official partner of the P4G.
