Dengue fever epidemic sees complicated developments in Binh Dinh

Doctor Nguyen Hoang Minh, deputy director of Binh Dinh General Hospital, said the hospital has admitted more than 2,500 cases of dengue fever since the start of the year, with 26 patients suffering from severe shock.

The hardest hit locality in the region is Hoai Nhon district, with 17 communes within the district reporting 811 cases of the epidemic and 47 outbreaks.

This figure represents a five-fold increase in the number of cases in comparison to the same period from last year.  

The complicated nature of developments of dengue fever cases in Binh Dinh is attributable to a rampant drought, which has led to serious water shortages to occur in the daily lives of local people.

Notably,  local residents only pay attention to water reserves but they neglect to eradicate mosquito larva.

The inspection team from the Ministry of Health has requested that provincial hospitals ensure sufficient medical equipment and mobilize all resources in an attempt to cope with the disease.

The epidemic is predicted to see further complicated developments as the rainy season progresses.
