Dengue fever claims one life in HCM City
VOV.VN - Although there has been a 36% decrease in the number of dengue fever cases in HCM City in the first seven months of 2018 compared to last year, one death has been reported in district 12 due to the epidemic, according to Dr Nguyen Tri Dung, director of HCM City’s Preventive Medicine Centre.
Although the number of dengue fever cases during this year has been lower than the same period last year, the number of cases tends to increase in the rainy season and the peak of the epidemic might fall in October or November, said Mr Dung.
To deal with the disease, the city’s medical sector has taken drastic measures by eradicating mosquito larvae, and calling on residents to respond to ASEAN Dengue Day. However, Mr Dung warned about the latent risks of the disease which could break out in the rainy season.
Mr Dung noted that controls have been tightened in high-risk areas of public places but there remain latent hazards in households such as aquariums, water jars and glasses, which might harbor infected mosquito larvae. Therefore, joint efforts are needed to raise residents’ awareness about the disease and how it spreads.
