Dengue fever cases near record high in Dong Nai Province
VOV.VN - Dong Nai provincial health officials have unveiled that the number of cases of dengue fever since the beginning of the year has hit an alarming 450 with 42 separate outbreaks on record.
Roughly 400 out of 450 cases were in the district of Nhon Trach and were serious enough to require the patient be admitted to the hospital, said Tran Minh Hoa, deputy director of the Centre.
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. There are four closely related but antigenically different serotypes of the virus that can cause dengue (Den1, Den2, Den 3, Den 4).
Hoa underscored that there is no specific medication for treatment of a dengue infection, medical personnel can only treat the symptoms. A better option is for local officials to eradicate the mosquitoes transmitting the disease.
The Centre has requested local authorities to undertake a vigorous program of spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes particularly in those areas hardest hit by the disease to get rid of the disease.
