Decentralised wastewater treatment discussed

The model of decentralised wastewater treatment was discussed at a workshop held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on May 8.

The event, co-organized by the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Ministry of Construction, aims to share experience in applying the pilot model in cities and provinces nationwide, which is expected to minimise investment and operation costs use the local workforce more effectively.

Currently, wastes are being collected in dense residential areas, then treated at treatment stations in suburban areas. However, this method proves inappropriate in scattered population areas.

Participants proposed that the pilot model should be incorporated into urban development schemes.

After the workshop, they visited several decentralised waste treatment facilities in the city.
