The central city of Da Nang is adding lights to a park after a schoolboy sent local officials a letter sharing his dream of playing football.
In the handwritten letter, Nguyen Manh Quan, a middle school student, said the An Hoa 2 park near his house did not have any lights and he and his friends could not play there in the evening.
“All the other parks far from my house have lights. The kids there are happily playing football,” he wrote.
“We have to play at a street corner, which is not very safe due to a lot of traffic.”
Quan said his older brother told him that officials in Danang were trying to learn about the public's dreams and wishes for the city. That's why he decided to write the letter to share his dream.
"Please help me,” he wrote.
The boy did not have to wait very long.
Just days after receiving the letter, local authorities decided to put up four light poles at the park.
The VND80-million (US$3,500) project started earlier this week and is scheduled to finish on April 15.
Officials also promised to keep the park a safe playground for children.
