Danang: ’China Beach’ posters seized

The central city of Danang’s immigration public security force and Ngu Hanh Son Police seized dozens of posters that had illegally printed the local beach under the name ‘China Beach’ at a tour service company in the city.

Colonel Tran Huu Do, head of the city’s immigration management office under the department of public security, said the host admitted that she hired a foreign man to print more than 1,000 posters for tourism four years ago.

Do said public security will destroy the illegal posters and warn all residents, tourists and tour service companies about the inaccurate communication leaflets.

The host, Le Thi Tam, 52, used a poster to promote her Jeep car rental, surfing and cuisine services at Tam’s Pub and Surf shop, located at 38 An Thuong 5 Street in the coastal Ngu Hanh Son district.

She said she did not realise the local coastal area’s name had been changed to China Beach.

According to public security, the poster, which was written in Vietnamese and English, introduced tour services with Jeep cars to destinations in Hoi An, Da Nang and Hue. However, the map on the poster did not clearly show the name of the East Sea, but "China Beach" was printed instead.

The case is under investigation.

According to Colonel Do, the city’s immigration public security force will not stamp Chinese passports printed with the nine-dash line.

“We reject the nine-dash line claim on the East Sea by China, but we cannot refuse Chinese tourists visiting the city,” Do said. “So, we will put seals on a separate paper instead of stamping that passport directly.”

Earlier this month, the city’s public security force and tourism inspection team had found 11 Chinese nationals illegally operating tourist and accounting services in Son Tra District.

These Chinese nationals, who had entered Vietnam as tourists, had violated immigration, residency and labour regulations in the city.
