Danang and Hoi An hold celebrations to mark Lord Buddha’s 2563rd birthday

VOV.VN - A lotus-shaped lantern festival along with a street parade were held in the cities of Hoi An and Danang to celebrate the 2563rd anniversary of Lord Buddha’s birth on May 19.

Hoai river in Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam was lit up with lotus-shaped lanterns for the festival.
Seven lotuses were placed on the river to symbolise the seven steps of a child Buddha.
 
 
 
By dropping lotus-shaped lanterns into the river, local people and tourists send a message of peace to the world.
Foreign tourists were delighted to have the opportunity to join in the festival.
Meanwhile, Danang’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter held a ceremony to mark Lord Buddha’s 2563rd birthday.
Giant vehicles and large floats were paraded through the streets to celebrate the event.
 
A large number of Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, and followers were in attendance for the parade.
The parade began from Pho Da pagoda and ran through the main streets of Danang before stopping at Phap Lam pagoda.
 
 
 
Those in attendance for the parade wish for peace and happiness to be spread throughout the world.
 
The event proved to be popular with both local people and tourists.
