The case, the largest of its kind uncovered in the province, was unveiled at a press briefing on December 24.

According to Colonel Vo Duy Tuan, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Police, law enforcement identified a drug trafficking network operating across Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, and several other localities. The group used encrypted communication applications and social media platforms, frequently activating auto-delete functions to evade detection.

Investigators determined that the network involved more than 20 suspects. The alleged ringleaders, Nguyen Thanh Bao and Lam Anh Vy (residents of Lam Dong province) were found to have established connections with drug suppliers near the Dak Peur–Numbenh border area between Vietnam and Cambodia, organising the illegal transport of drugs into Vietnam.

From December 17 to 20, police mobilised approximately 200 officers from multiple specialised units, working in coordination with local police forces, to simultaneously conduct arrests and emergency searches at various locations.

As a result, authorities arrested 19 individuals and seized more than 9.2 kg of synthetic drugs, including methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA and heroin, along with 11,184 methamphetamine tablets. They also confiscated two firearms, ammunition, approximately VND220 million (around US$8,300) in cash, and other related evidence.

Investigators reported that the suspects employed elaborate concealment methods, hiding drugs underground, in ceilings, and within residential compounds. Police deployed sniffer dogs and mechanical equipment, excavating an area of approximately 2,000 square meters to recover the hidden narcotics.
