Da Nang tightens security for International Fireworks Festival 2026

VOV.VN - Da Nang police and armed forces have rolled out security, traffic safety, search and rescue measures for the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2026, which is scheduled to kick off on May 30.

The festival, scheduled to run through mid-July, is expected to be one of the city’s largest tourism and cultural events of the year.

Authorities said security and public safety operations have been elevated to a high level, with coordinated deployments involving police, military, border guard and emergency response forces.

Along the Han River, the central venue of the festival, the Da Nang Border Guard Command has been tasked with overseeing waterway security, regulating vessel movements, managing anchoring activities and responding to emergency situations.

More than 300 officers and soldiers, supported by patrol boats, speedboats and canoes, have been mobilised to monitor activities on the Han River, respond to emergencies and participate in search and rescue operations.

The Border Guard Command has also coordinated with Da Nang's 115 Emergency Centre to station medical personnel on patrol vessels for rapid response when needed. Additional forces have been deployed at both ends of Thuan Phuoc Bridge and Dragon Bridge, while joint patrols with military and police units will secure key routes including Bach Dang, Tran Hung Dao and Nhu Nguyet streets.

Colonel Phan Van Tri, deputy commander and chief of staff of Da Nang Border Guard Command, said all preparations had been completed, including the installation of a floating pontoon bridge in front of the VIP grandstand and inspections of vessels, equipment and personnel.

As the festival runs over several weekends until mid-July, traffic management is also a major focus. The city’s traffic police have developed detailed plans to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimise congestion.

Colonel Phan Thanh Hong, head of the city's Traffic Police Division, said a special security and traffic safety campaign has been launched from April 15 to July 14. Officers have been deployed to key routes and locations, supported by the city's traffic signal control centre to promptly regulate traffic and prevent serious congestion.

The overall security operation is led by Da Nang Police. On May 26, Major General Nguyen Huu Hop, director of the Da Nang City Police, inspected drills covering security, traffic management, fire prevention and rescue operations for the festival.

He instructed all units to review contingency plans and maintain close coordination to prevent any security lapses during the event.

According to Hop, Da Nang Police have requested support from the Ministry of Public Security, with 350 mobile police officers assigned to assist with security operations. A command centre has also been established to coordinate all deployed units and ensure the festival is held safely and securely.

DIFF 2026 will run from May 30 to mid-July under the theme “Danang – United Horizons” featuring 10 fireworks teams, including several of the world's leading competitors.

The fireworks displays over the Han River are expected to illuminate Da Nang's skyline and deliver a spectacular audio-visual experience for residents and visitors alike.
