Da Nang plans to launch direct flights to Nagoya

VOV.VN - The authorities of Da Nang central city are planning to launch direct flights to Nagoya in Japan in the first quarter of 2024 in orderas part of efforts to boost investment, trade, and tourism.

The statement was made by Tran Chi Cuong, vice chairman of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee, during a working session held on December 13 with a Japanese delegation led by Nagoya City Mayor Takashi Kawamura.

The number of Japanese tourists visiting the central city has increased in recent times, rising by 22 times from 2011 to 2019. Indeed, Japan is the leading investor in Da Nang, pouring more than US$1 billion into 222 projects, accounting for 23.5% of the to number of projects and 26% of the total foreign investment capital in the coastal city.

Japanese firms have injected investment into accommodation facilities in Da Nang such as P&I Resorts (Pulcha), Blossom City Hotel, Mikazuki Japanese Resort and Spa, and Route Inn Japan.

Since opening doors for international tourism following the COVID-19 pandemic in March, 2022, Da Nang has organised many tourism promotion programmes in Japan. On March 26, the direct flight between Da Nang and Narita of Japan officially resumed after more than three years of interruption.

In the first quarter of the year, Da Nang welcomed 18,000 Japanese visitors, making Japan among the top 10 international tourist markets to the central city.

Cuong suggested that Chubu Nagoya International Airport (NGO) and Da Nang International Airport (DAD) should launch direct flights to connect the two localities. The opening of the direct Da Nang-Nagoya flight will further contribute to giving tourists more travel options as a means of saving cost and time, further contributing to promoting investment ties and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Japan.

In his remarks, Mayor Kawamura shared that his visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties, especially in the field of the tourism industry. The Japanese official expressed hope at the prospect of promoting direct flights from Nagoya to Da Nang moving forward in order to meet travel demand between the two localities.

The air route is scheduled to be unveiled during the “Meet Da Nang” event due to take place from January 27 to 30, 2024.

Nagoya is home to over 2.3 million people. It is Japan's fourth largest incorporated city and is the third most populous urban area. Centrally located, it is one of Japan’s most important transportation hubs, historical centres and industrial powerhouses.

Da Nang is the largest city in the central region of Vietnam. It has a well-sheltered, easily accessible port, and its location on National Highway 1 and the North-South Railway makes it a transport hub. It is within 100 km of several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Imperial City of Hue, Hoi An Ancient City, and My Son Sanctuary.
