Da Nang eyes Southeast Asia’s "silver economy" hub

VOV.VN - Da Nang is seeking to position itself as a leading “silver economy” hub in Southeast Asia as international experts and investors gathered at the Da Nang Global Business Summit 2026 to discuss elderly care, integrated healthcare and medical tourism opportunities in Vietnam.

Held on May 15 under the theme “Silver Generation Innovation Edition”, the conference attracted policymakers, healthcare businesses, technology specialists and international investors. As population aging becomes a global trend, the summit focuses on unlocking opportunities within Vietnam’s rapidly expanding elderly healthcare market.

According to the Phoenix Research 2025 report, “Vietnam Elderly Care Market: Homecare, Assisted Living and Digital Telecare Transformation (2025–2033),” the market is projected to grow from US$940 million in 2025 to US$1.79 billion by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.1%. Notably, Central Vietnam, led by Da Nang, is forecast to be the fastest-growing region with a CAGR of approximately 9.1%.

Huynh Thanh Thuy, Founder & CEO of Lion Huynh Tran Co., Ltd. – the summit’s organiser, said that the summit targets to architect a new future for aging in Vietnam.

“By connecting global expertise with Da Nang’s natural advantages, we aim to position the city as the heart of medical tourism and modern senior living communities in Southeast Asia, where technological innovation goes hand in hand with human values,” she said.

Experts at the summit discussed five main topics, including age-friendly urban development, artificial intelligence and digital healthcare technologies, modern living communities, medical tourism and investment policy frameworks.

Several elderly care models from Japan, Australia and Singapore were also introduced, sharing experiences in building integrated ecosystems combining healthcare, resort services and social welfare support.

Participants noted that Da Nang possesses strong advantages for developing medical tourism thanks to its tourism infrastructure, favourable living environment and improving service quality.

The summit drew the participation of numerous international speakers, including David Boucher – Executive Brand Ambassador & Former CEO of Bumrungrad International Hospital, Chris Vanloon – Chairman of AmCham Central Vietnam, Florence Gaudry Perkins – Founder & CEO of Digital Health Partnership, and Mason Cobb – Founder & CEO of Victoria Healthcare Systems, along with many experts in the fields of healthcare and health technology.

Beyond serving as an investment networking forum, the Da Nang Global Business Summit 2026 is expected to contribute to the city’s longer-term strategy of becoming a strategic destination for Southeast Asia’s emerging silver economy.
