Vietnam launches medical tourism alliance to boost integrated growth
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Medical Tourism Alliance (VMTA) was launched in Hanoi on April 7, marking a strategic step toward developing an integrated, cross-sector medical tourism model.
The alliance aims to position Vietnam as a leading global hub for medical tourism by linking health care, travel, finance and technology into a unified, internationally standardised ecosystem. It brings together stakeholders across these sectors under the guidance of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) and the Medical Services Administration, in a bid to strengthen connectivity and enhance competitiveness as the regional market expands.
Speaking at the launch, VNAT Director Nguyen Trung Khanh noted that the initiative would help develop new tourism products aligned with national strategies, unlock Vietnam’s potential and contribute to making tourism a key economic sector supporting high growth targets.
In addition, Director of the Medical Service Administration Ha Anh Duc highlighted the country’s advantages in health care and expressed confidence that the alliance would help maximise these strengths.
The VMTA’s core mission includes integrating national resources, standardising services to international levels, building seamless and personalised patient journeys, advancing digital transformation and elevating Vietnam’s position on the global medical tourism map. Technology is expected to play a central role in connecting stakeholders and improving service delivery.
According to Tran The Viet, a representative of VMTA, the alliance aims by 2030 to build an integrated network linking travel agencies, hospitality providers and internationally accredited medical facilities. It strives to attract an additional 1–2 million medical tourists, extend average stays from 7–8 nights to 15–30 nights, and generate annual revenue of US$3–5 billion. All transactions within the ecosystem are expected to be fully digitised.
Saigon Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) has joined as a founding member and financial partner, aiming to support the ecosystem through digital payments, integrated financial solutions and hospital fee guarantees.
The launch is seen as part of Vietnam’s broader push to deepen international integration and accelerate digital transformation, while establishing medical tourism as a new growth pillar and advancing efforts to build a national brand for Vietnam’s medical tourism sector.
