COVID-19: With 22 more cases, Vietnam infection tally passes 900 mark

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s total number of coronavirus infections in Vietnam has passed the 900 mark, hitting 905 after 22 more cases were reported on August 13 afternoon.

Of the newly detected cases, 14 were registered in Da Nang, the epicenter of the current COVID-19 outbreak, two in Quang Nam province and one in Quang Tri province.

Most of the cases are patients, their relatives, caregivers, and those having contact with COVID-19 patients at Da Nang hospital. A medical worker tested positive at Da Nang Cancer Hospital.

Meanwhile, the remaining five cases were confirmed after they returned to Vietnam from Japan on August 5.

As of 18.00hrs August 13, Vietnam has registered 905 infection cases, including 327 cases returning from epidemic hit countries and territories.

After 99 days without a single locally transmitted infection in Vietnam, the first case of community transmission was reported in Da Nang city on July 25, and the outbreak has since spread to 15 cities and provinces across the country.

A total of 438 cases, including 20 fatalities, have been confirmed. Da Nang, the epicenter of the outbreak, has registered 310 cases, followed by Quang Nam (81), and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (8 each). 

Currently, more than 133,000 people who had contact with COVID-19 patients and returned from overseas have been placed in isolation for medical surveillance at medical centres, concentrated quarantine facilities and places of residence.
